What do you think of these pages from the website of University Christian Fellowship in Syracuse, New York:
What Do You Think Of This?
Priceless, in the best sense. Christians who don’t take themselves seriously! Christians who know how to use humor disarmingly! And sound, like, really really normal. Wonderful.
I’m a little unsure how to take it. The “traditionalist” in me (which is not a very vocal part, given that I’m a core member of a “radical” church plant) thinks it might be a little too over-the-top. The rest of me, though, thinks it’s pretty fun, and funny.
I guess what would make it or break it for me is whether this is an accurate representation — whether the story they’re telling with their site matches the experience a visitor will have. If so, I think that’s excellent. If not, I think the site will come off contrived.
Sarah:
Thanks so much for your very insightful comments. The “accurate representation” part, I think, is the key. To speak in marketing terms, the “online branding” of our churches is always subservient to the “ultimate branding” of a person’s real experience with our congregations.
Thanks again for your contribution! I really appreciate it.

I believe that the internet provides today's church with a historic opportunity .... to tell the old, old story of Jesus and His love in ways which could only have been imagined in times past. The objective of this website is to explore the various ways in which today's technology can be used to spread the gospel around the world.
