I see two drawbacks:

- Getting vlog content to be indexed by search engines

- Accessibility

I’m sure you could go a long ways by adding text metatags to the post (ala Flickr) but until speech to text is more reliable or you provide a full text transcript the content won’t be as widely usable and findable as a text blog entry.

Yes, I agree. I think for now at least, it should be seen as supplemental to normal text entries. As you gain readership, vlogs could be used as additional content that isn’t absolutely necessary but just adds personality.
