Coffee With Scott Aughtmon

Earlier this month, I posted an article about Pathway Church in Palo Alto, California and their refreshing website targeted at unbelievers.

The pastor of Pathway, Scott Aughtmon, contacted me not long after that article appeared. Since I only live about 45 minutes away from Palo Alto, we arranged to meet at Starbucks last Wednesday afternoon. We spent almost two hours talking about how principles of internet marketing can be used to spread the gospel.

One of the most interesting parts of the conversation was hearing Scott talking about his experiments with Google Adwords to promote their church plant. According to Scott, they are receiving a nice stream of visits to the church website as a result of their Google ads.

Here’s a related article.

Frank,

Enjoyed surfing your blog.  The blogosphere = the death of distance.  Any friend of Scott’s is a friend of mine smile Scott was on staff with us at National Community Church before we helped him launch the church plant.

Small world.

All the best!

Thanks Mark. Yeah - I noticed the connection with Scott and National Community as well.

I was amazed at how many mutual friends and acquaintances Scott and I have. We graduated from the same school (different times). One of his first youth pastors and I went to junior high together. His wife and I went to the same church for a long time. The senior pastor where he was first a youth pastor was my favorite professor in college. His father-in-law was the president of the college when I was there. His brother-in-law is the music pastor at a church pastored by a dear friend of mine (my former youth pastor). And it goes on and on.

Thanks for commenting!
